Friction Brake Material Manufacturer - Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Indiana and Iowa Service Areas
Friction Brake Materials: powdered metal-based friction materials used in clutch and brake applications.
We have provided many answers to tough problems in controlling, stopping or transmitting power; but the future always brings new technology and new challenges. We will continue to develop unique answers for each new customer application.
We develop friction materials to meet the unique needs for each application, in order to fulfill the high expectations that our customers place on each carefully-planned final product. Performance depends on the friction material, and using the right friction material makes all the difference in the effectiveness, and ultimately the success, of the customer’s application.
Taking all key aspects of product performance into consideration, including energy capacity, wear, friction, reliability in routine situations, and the ability to maintain basic function in emergency situations to prevent damage to a vehicle and enhance the safety of its operator, manufacturers who place a premium on end-product quality and reliability find our friction materials, customer service, and commitment to quality to be of extraordinary value.
Friction Brake Materials
We understand that every application is special. That's why we offer a range of high-quality sintered metallic friction materials that can be customized to best meet your brake pad or clutch plate needs.
- Bronze - Our bronze friction materials offer low noise, low wear, high hardness, and chip resistance for use in clutch and brake applications. They can be used in both wet and dry applications.
- Iron - Our iron materials can work in high energy, high friction, high temperature, and low wear applications, such as heavy duty or high performance brakes. They are best suited to dry applications.
- Iron-Bronze - Our iron-bronze materials can be used in automatic transmission discs and aircraft brakes, or in other applications where a combination of high energy, low noise, low wear, and chip resistance is important. They can be used in both wet and dry applications.
- Metallic Ceramic - Our metallic ceramic materials offer low noise, smooth operation, high friction, high hardness, high temperatures, and low fade for use in brakes, high temperature clutches, and specialty applications. They can be used in both wet and dry applications.
- Metallic Graphitic - Metallic graphitic materials offer low fade, high energy, low noise, and operation with a 0.13 coefficient of friction in wet applications, for use in heavy duty trucks and equipment. They can be used in both wet and dry applications.
Friction Brake Material Applications
Our sintered metallic friction materials are used in brakes and clutch pads for Off-Road, ATV, Industrial, and Marine applications.
We work with our customers to find the best material for their particular needs. We take all the key aspects of product performance into consideration, including energy capacity, wear, friction, reliability in routine situations, and ability to maintain basic function in emergency situations.
Friction Brake Material Groove Patterns
- Plain - The plain lining, with no grooving, can be used for dry (without oil) brakes or pads, and can also be used for applications in which the friction material will be completely immersed in oil. Our broad range of metallic-based friction materials provide high energy, low wear, unparalleled durability, and competitive friction levels compared to other materials.
- Spiradial - This grooving pattern may be used in wet (with oil) applications in which there is limited oil available due to the design of the brake or clutch. The spiradial pattern combines the benefits of controlled oil flow through spiral grooving, with the radial grooving advantage of reduced viscous drag, that is, the tendency of the plates to rotate when they are disengaged due to the movement of oil flow.
- Differential - Also known as the “sunburst” pattern, this is a relatively common grooving design within the industry, and is generally suitable for ordinary applications in which sufficient oil is available. While most manufacturers machine their grooves into the friction material, our distinctive molded grooving process creates grooves with qualities that more effectively facilitate oil flow and disperse heat, enhancing performance.
- Spiral - Spiral grooving patterns are normally used in sump-type applications, in which the part is partially submersed in oil. The spiral grooves trap sump oil, and as the part rotates out of the oil, the trapped oil cools and lubricates the surfaces. By controlling oil flow in this manner, spiral grooving prevents wear on both the friction material and its opposing surface, including the portion of the surface that is not actually submersed in oil.
- Radial - Radial grooving may be used in either wet or dry applications, depending on the specific design requirements. Where forced oil flow is available, radial grooving can be an ideal pattern for heat removal and minimizing viscous drag. Radial grooves may also be added to some dry applications to ensure that any worn material does not become trapped between the mating plate and the friction material surface.
- Inside-Outside-Slot-Spiral (IOSS) - This complex, high-energy grooving pattern can meet the demands of severe applications in which there is very little oil or only a spray of oil available. The IOSS pattern retains what little oil is available through the application design, keeping the friction material and its opposing surface cool and lubricated, thus preventing wear. We can produce this unique IOSS design in a cost-effective manner, as readily as the simpler, lower-performance patterns commonly offered by others within the industry.
